It’s back! KSJE’s “Eye in the Sky” returns after a 12-month absence.

Sunrise over San Juan College Campus

KSJE, the San Juan College, community-supported radio station, that added the term “Visual Radio” to the Four Corners lexicon, was without one of its biggest visual tools for almost a year! The KSJE weathercam has once again been returned to its perch above the San Juan College campus, and the Animas and San Juan River Valleys in the distance.

The camera, which provides a live look at weather conditions 24 hours a day/365 days a year, is used by KSJE in its visual radio broadcasts to Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, but images are also used by television weather forecasters when there is unique or severe weather to share with the rest of the state from Farmington and San Juan County.

“It’s a great resource for us, and to be able to share with the community, and viewers throughout the state,” said KSJE General Manger Scott Michlin, “and the view can’t be beat.”

The new camera offers a sharper HD picture and can be pointed in different directions to highlight other local landmarks, such as Angel Peak, which is 15 miles south of Bloomfield, but visible by KSJE’s camera on a clear day.

This is actually the third weather camera that KSJE has had, all made possible by community support of KSJE. The first camera was damaged by lightning and was replaced with a refurbished model. When the second camera started having problems in 2021, they discovered that it was already eight years old.

KSJE hopes to have many more years of service from the new camera, which has captured everything from holiday fireworks displays, the annual luminaria displays, and some amazing sunrises and sunsets!

The KSJE weathercam is part of the WeatherBug network. Live, updated images can be viewed at KSJE.com.
